About

Communications experience from the newsroom to the boardroom.

Carrigan Strategic Communications was created around a simple idea: organizations deserve senior communications counsel that is strategic, accessible and close to the work.

Meet Dan Carrigan

Dan Carrigan is a communications leader, former broadcast journalist and strategic counselor with experience spanning global agencies, health care, higher education, government and trade associations.

He has served in leadership roles at global communications agencies Edelman and Current Global (IPG network), advised major health care and biopharmaceutical organizations and led communications, marketing and strategy for VCU Health’s Hume-Lee Transplant Center.

Throughout his career, Dan has helped organizations navigate high-stakes moments, strengthen their reputations and turn complex ideas into communications that reach the people who matter. His experience ranges from counseling executives and managing crisis communications to developing proactive media and thought leadership programs. He has also led teams and complex client relationships while helping organizations strengthen their communications efforts.

Before entering strategic communications, Dan spent six years in television news as a reporter, anchor and multimedia journalist in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He reported from the state capitol, covered breaking news and major trials, anchored newscasts and produced work that appeared nationally.

That newsroom experience continues to shape how he approaches communications today: understand the audience, ask better questions, find what matters and tell the story clearly.

Dan holds a master’s degree in mass communications with a concentration in integrated communication from Virginia Commonwealth University and a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.

Why Carrigan

Global experience. Partnership mindset.

Large agencies bring scale. Internal teams bring institutional knowledge. Independent consultants bring access and agility.

Carrigan Strategic Communications is designed to bring together the best of those models: senior-level expertise, close collaboration and the ability to move quickly from strategy to execution.

Clients work directly with experienced communications leadership rather than layers of account teams.

Recognition

Dan’s work has received industry recognition, including the 2022 United Network for Organ Sharing Transplant Management Forum Leadership, Marketing and Strategy Award. His transplant communications work was also selected for presentation at the 2020 and 2021 UNOS Transplant Management Forums, and his journalism received an Associated Press award.

Good communications start with a good conversation.
